I bow to Shiva-Parvati, the eternally young,
Forever in each other's affectionate embrace
The dear daughter of the mountains, the Lord whose flag bears the symbol of a bull,
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 1 ||
I bow to Shiva-Parvati, for whom countless joyful ceremonies are performed,
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 2 ||
I bow to Shiva-Parvati, Who moves on his sacred bull,
Who is worshipped by Brahma, Vishnu, and Indra,
Whose body is covered in holy ash and sandalwood paste
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 3 ||
I bow to Shiva-Parvati, the Lord of the universe,
The Guardian of all worlds, Who is victory personified,
Revered by the God of Thunder among other gods
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 4 ||
I bow to Shiva-Parvati, the most powerful medicine of all,
Residing in the sounds and spaces of the Panchakshari mantra,
The root of creation, sustenance and dissolution of this world,
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 5 ||
I bow to Shiva-Parvati, enchantingly beautiful,
Who love the world dearly with their lotus-like hearts,
Who bring well-being to the creatures of all worlds,
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 6 ||
I bow to Shiva-Parvati, Who end the evils of this Kaliyuga,
One wears skulls, the other is draped in beautiful clothes
The great God and Goddess residing on the Mount of Kailash
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 7 ||
I bow to Shiva-Parvati, remover of inauspiciousness,
Who have unmatched stature and greatness among all worlds and beings
Whose powers are infinite, who can be accessed through a righteous life
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 8 ||
I bow to Shiva-Parvati, seated on the divine chariot
Whose eyes are the Sun, Moon, and Fire
Whose lotus face is aglow like a full moon
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 9 ||
I bow to Shiva-Parvati, Who have matted locks of hair,
Who are immune to old age and death
Who is worshipped by Vishnu and was born from the Brahma Lotus
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 10 ||
I bow to Shiva-Parvati, our solace in hard times,
Adorned with garlands of Bilva leaves and Mallika flowers
The Resplendent Goddess and her Resplendent Consort
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 11 ||
I bow to Shiva-Parvati, the guardian of all beings
Who are devoted to the protection of all three worlds
Worshipped by all the Devas and Asuras
I bow to you, time and again, O Shiva and Parvati! || 12 ||
The devotees who recite this 12-verse Shiva Parvati stotram thrice a day
Will be blessed with all forms of abundance
And after a long life, they will attain an eternal home in the world of Shiva and Parvati. || 13 ||
Thus ends the Uma Maheshwara Stotram created by Shri Shankaracharya.
Why it works
- Harmonizes relationships and deepens bonds through the model of divine complementarity that Shiva and Parvati embody.
- Cultivates compassion and emotional resilience by invoking Parvati's merciful nature and Shiva's protective power.
- Aligns consciousness with cosmic order (rita) by acknowledging the eternal creative-destructive cycle they govern.
- Removes spiritual obstacles and bestows protection, prosperity, and longevity to sincere practitioners.
- Activates the Panchakshari mantra (Om Namah Shivaya) within the heart, purifying mind and subtle energy channels.
